Anthony Loke Siew Fook, born on April 28, 1977, in Seremban, Negeri Sembilan, is a prominent Malaysian politician serving as the Minister of Transport since December 2022. He is a key figure in the Democratic Action Party (DAP), holding the position of Secretary-General since March 2022.
Loke's political career began in 2004 when he was elected to the Negeri Sembilan State Legislative Assembly for the Lobak seat. He expanded his influence by winning the Rasah parliamentary seat in 2008 and later the Seremban parliamentary seat in 2013, which he continues to represent.
As Minister of Transport, Loke has been instrumental in implementing significant reforms to enhance Malaysia's transportation infrastructure. His initiatives include improving public transportation services, such as increasing the frequency of the Kelana Jaya LRT during peak hours and introducing dedicated coaches for women on the MRT. He has also advocated for the digitization of key government services to provide a more seamless experience for the public.
Loke's leadership is characterized by a commitment to transparency, efficiency, and public engagement. His proactive approach and dedication to improving Malaysia's transportation systems have earned him recognition as a dynamic and effective leader in the nation's political landscape.
“If he wants to take legal action, he can try his luck, and we will respond through the Attorney-General’s Chambers (A-GC),” Loke stated.
The businessman alleges copyright infringement related to the Madani number plates. However, Loke clarified that the copyright in question, as registered with the Intellectual Property Corporation of Malaysia (MyIPO), only covers the proposal paperwork for the plates, not the plates themselves.
Authority Lies with the Transport Ministry
Loke emphasized that under the Road Transport Act 1987, the authority to approve and register any vehicle licence plates resides with the Transport Minister.
“After checking with MyIPO, it’s clear that the copyright claim is limited to the paperwork. The licence plate itself is not subject to copyright,” he explained.
The statement comes amidst the businessman’s claim of infringement, but Loke’s remarks highlight the legal boundaries and procedures governing such cases.
This response from the Transport Minister underscores the government’s confidence in its position, signaling readiness to address the matter in court if necessary.
